The Reality of Change

Print Friendly, PDF & Email

It’s funny how the Lord works in my mind when I am reading His Word with the pictures He paints!

The Tesla Roadster goes from 0-60 in 1.9 seconds… huh… How about 0-150 in 2 seconds in a Phantom! I can tell you its a real kick in the pants and I used to do it every day; many times at night… beat that Elon Musk!

But just before that moment you are just sitting there, fully loaded with fuel, missiles, and bombs… all  26.5 tons of you… with both engines in full after burner… held down by the law of gravity. But then, in a heartbeat it all changes as the law of aerodynamics takes over and all that power is turned into 35,000 pounds of thrust that slips the surly bounds of “sea.”

And how does this scripture fit into that picture?

2 Cor 5:17 Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; old things have passed away; behold, all things have become new.

The term “in Christ” is used some 130 times in the New Testament epistles. The concept was first taught by Jesus in His teaching on the True Vine:

John 15:5 “I am the vine, you are the branches. He who abides in Me, and I in him, bears much fruit; for without Me you can do nothing.

A wonderful example of of being “in Christ” is found in Noah and his family in the ark. When they entered and God closed the door they were completely enclosed in the ark, separated from the world outside and were supplied with everything they needed. They were secured from the judgment that befell the outside world. They went through the entire judgment and not one “drop” fell on them, it all fell on the ark. And they stayed there until they landed on a post-judgment world. What it meant for Noah and his family to be “in the ark” is what it means for us to be “in Christ.”

Just like that Phantom is changed from a heavily laden 26.5 tons of machinery to a flying machine, we are transported from our worldly existence into a new creature in Christ… much faster than 2 seconds. We are immediately lifted into His presence in the heavenlies, filled with His glory…

Rev 3:21 To him who overcomes I will grant to sit with Me on My throne, as I also overcame and sat down with My Father on His throne.

Eph 1:3 Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who has blessed us with every spiritual blessing in the heavenly places in Christ…

Truly, when we become a Christian, old things pass away and all things become new… because:

2 Cor 5:18-19 Now all things are of God, who has reconciled us to Himself through Jesus Christ …

Yes, inertia lost its grip each time that plane roared down the catapult and we “slipped the surly bonds of sea,” but we had to come back down. As His bride we get to slip the “surly bonds of this world” and soar with Jesus in the spirit… in His Spirit… and we never have to come back down. Oh, we will walk this earth in our earthly body (our flesh) until the day that He takes us home, but unlike the rest of the unsaved world, our spirit is soaring in the heavenlies.

And one day we, too, will step into a new, post judgement world in a new day… because we are in Christ.

Don’t you think that’s a message worth sharing?
