Moses had an appointment with God in the morning and I’m pretty sure he didn’t get much sleep that night… I sure wouldn’t have. If God had promised to tell me something He had never told anybody I would be wide-eyed all night. After all, Moses had only asked God … show me Your glory!

The Bible tells us that after that sleepless night “Moses rose early in the morning and went up Mount Sinai” and while he stood in the crevice of the rock the Lord passed by.

Ex 34:6-8 The Lord passed before him and proclaimed, “The Lord, the Lord, a God merciful and gracious, slow to anger, and abounding in steadfast love and faithfulness, keeping steadfast love for thousands, forgiving iniquity and transgression and sin, but who will by no means clear the guilty, visiting the iniquity of the fathers on the children and the children’s children, to the third and the fourth generation.” ESV

There it was, the question of all ages; Who is God and what is God like?

Here was God’s answer, but it was left for Jesus to become the Incarnation of those words that mankind might be able to believe that what God said He was, He was; merciful, gracious, longsuffering, abounding in goodness and truth, forgiving. Even Jesus, the Word that became flesh, spoke no other words that made in more clear as to who God was than the words God spoke of Himself to Moses.

It all boils down to the fact that God is holy love.

We will never know all of who God is. When we get some new fresh insight via The Word and the Holy Spirit we’re like Moses standing in the crevice of the rock in holiness, humility and awe and worship.

A grandfather asked his three year-old granddaughter when she was going to be four? I’m going to be four when I get through being three. As Jesus’ bride we are unlike that little girl as we will never get through being three … that is, knowing God as holy love. That is what our walk with Him is all about; continually learning the bottomless depth of His love for us. No matter what new revelations come to us about God, this is the essence of who God is … Holy Love!
