It Is Finished! … Is It?

John 19:30 When Jesus had received the sour wine, he said, “It is finished,” and he bowed his head and gave up his spirit. ESV

In that awesome moment Jesus “finished” what He came to do … The redemption of man. But it is not the finished for us, it is just the beginning. And what a beginning we have been given. We have been given “His Life,” His Spirit. But that life comes with a challenge.

Matt 28:18-20 And Jesus came and said to them, “All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me. Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, 20 teaching them to observe all that I have commanded you. And behold, I am with you always, to the end of the age.” ESV

When Jesus spoke those immortal words, our work just began. We are to Go therefore, which simply means “live” His Life. And we have been told how to do that.

Acts 1:8 But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you, and you will be my witnesses in Jerusalem and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the end of the earth.” ESV

It is the Holy Spirit who establishes our “calling” and our “going,” but it is our challenge to live them out by following Him and remembering that we are to Go as His Witnesses. And there is only one way we can accomplish that. If we live the Life of Christ that we have been given, He will engineer all of our goings … If we abide in Him.

John 15:7 If you abide in me, and my words abide in you, ask whatever you wish, and it will be done for you. ESV

It is Finished … but it has also Just Begun.
